Residential recycling in Kenton County has been made convenient by the addition of the "Big Blue" recycling bins located throughout the county. The bins are a complement to the recycling opportunities provided by your weekly trash pick up. These are a convenient way to dispose of cardboard and most plastic containers that are overwhelming your weekly trash and recycling at the curb.

Residential recycling is a fast growing segment of NKY life and government. The following recycling locations have been provided by the Kenton County Fiscal Court. Kenton County Recycling - Big Blue Bins

Please note that the Kenton County "Open Dump" has been replaced with the Bavarian Voucher System.

Kenton County Recycling Centers

Residential recycling in Kenton County has been made convenient by the addition of Big Blue recycling bins located throughout the county. Residential recycling is a fast growing segment of NKY life and government. The following recycling locations have been provided by the Kenton County Fiscal Court.

Kenton County Fiscal Court has replaced the monthly clean-up events with a voucher system. Certain waste items can be taken directly to Bavarian Landfill (12764 McCoy Fork Road, Walton), instead of Kenton County Public Works in Independence. The Kenton County voucher system allows residents the opportunity to dispose and recycle their trash at Bavarian. Operating days are Monday - Saturday. Once again, Kenton County no longer hosts monthly clean-up events.

Leaving trash or other materials at Kenton County Public Works is considered illegal dumping. Do not leave items.

  • Items accepted in the blue bins are aluminum cans, paper, plastic and glass containers. Please do not put broken glass in the bins.
  • Open dumping has been replaced with the Bavarian Voucher System.

  • Cardboard specific bins are available
  • Items accepted in the bin are aluminum cans, paper, plastic and glass containers (Please remove all caps or lids and rinse.)
  • No broken glass, hazardous materials, or household cleaners (containers, bottles)
  • Not presently accepted:
    • wide-mouth containers
    • margarine bowls or whipped topping containers
    • plastic flatware; cassette and compact disc cases; children's toys; oil jugs, plastic bags and plastic buckets.

Kenton County has 14 "big Blue Bin" locations.

Commercial Recycling Locations

Some commercial recycling centers will pay you for your scrap and others will take the item(s) off of your hands to see that it is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Sometimes a fee may be charged for items collected. Items collected also vary by the scrapper so if you are unsure please call before you go.

  • An electronics recycling company for NKY businesses & residential. They offer pick up services for commercial recycling and residents are welcome to drop off old tech at their storefront.
